The Kentucky Bach Choir announces September auditions for the 2025-2026 concert season.  Co-Artistic Directors Vicki Bell and Stephen Bolster invite you to schedule an audition on Sunday, September 7 (1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.) at St. Raphael Episcopal Church, 1891 Parkers Mill Road, Lexington, KY 40504.

Singers for all voice parts will be auditioned.  Auditions will last approximately 20 minutes. Please park in the semi-circle in front of the church; enter through the right door.

To register for an audition time, please complete the audition form. You will be notified by email of your specific audition time within a few days of your submission.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

The Kentucky Bach Choir is an auditioned chamber choir of professional caliber. We seek highly skilled musicians with extensive classical choral training and experience, outstanding musicianship, music-reading, and foreign language diction skills, flexibility to sing in multiple styles (including with minimal vibrato), and a fine ear for balance, tuning, and phrasing in an ensemble setting.

AUDITION FORMAT

 

Please prepare the following prior to your audition:

1. Sing m. 17-38 of the provided excerpt (tempo: dotted quarter = 56 bpm

2. One classical solo of your choosing (art song, opera, or oratorio). Please bring a copy for the accompanist. German language is preferred, but not required; those who do not sing in German will be asked to read a brief passage in German.

 

In addition, singers will be vocalized to determine range, vocal characteristics, and ideal tessitura, and asked to sing several sight-reading passages. The audition lasts approximately 20 minutes.

EXPECTATIONS

 

Singers who are accepted into the Kentucky Bach Choir are expected to learn their music in advance. Singers must attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances (exceptions must be approved in advance by the Artistic Directors).

REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

 

We perform two concerts each season (Fall/Winter and Spring). There is an eight-week rehearsal period prior to each concert. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7:00-9:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 174 N. Mill Street, Lexington, KY.

 

Concerts for the 2025-26 season are scheduled for 7pm at First Presbyterian Church on December 7, 2025, and April 12, 2026.
