The Kentucky Bach Choir celebrates its 20th anniversary with two performances of Bach's St. Matthew Passion, marking the 300th anniversary of its first performance in Leipzig, in April 1727.

This monumental work includes a double chorus, a double orchestra, and an array of soloists. In addition to our Co-Artistic Directors, Dr. Vicki Bell and Dr. Stephen Bolster, who will be preparing our musicians through this months-long endeavor, we are extremely fortunate to secure the guidance of a nationally recognized Baroque music specialist, Dr. Andrew Megill, who will lead two preparatory workshops and conduct the April performances.

The magnitude of this challenge demands additional resources beyond those budgeted for our usual repertoire—hence, this special solicitation beyond our annual funding appeal. Your contribution to the St. Matthew Passion Anniversary Fund will help us meet those artistic demands while keeping tickets affordable—and expand our outreach to students, families, first-time concertgoers, and new audiences.

Rarely has this masterpiece been performed in the Commonwealth, and the preparation and execution of it here in the Bluegrass will lift both our musicians and our audience to a new level of musical knowledge and appreciation.
